Peterik Chapter 12: Writing for Stage, Screen, and Television

OK, my schedule at my new school has finally been revealed: I'll be teaching Integrated Math I and III this year.

With this schedule, I can no longer justify running a blog with "Stats" in its name. On the other hand, my old blog has "Geometry" in its name -- and Geometry is part of Integrated Math I.


This doesn't mean that I'm definitely abandoning this blog. Perhaps in some future year, I'll be called upon to teach Stats, and then I can resurrect this blog once again.

Chapter 14 Review (Days 133-134)

Today in Ethnostats, we performed two tasks. The first is in the Stats Scrapbooks. On page 26, was Sarah Carter's "Pi Ku" poetry, and so it's about time for us to do something on page 27 today. The activity on page 27 honors Cesar Chavez, a labor leader, so we analyzed the Statistics of unions: https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/union2.pdf Chavez might be disappointed to see that Hispanic/Latino workers are less likely to be members of a labor union than white Americans -- that is, P(union|Hispanic/Latino) < P(union). We notice that blacks are the only race with more women than men in the workforce (see  13th ). But blacks are the most unionized race. And since 2020 the number of workers increased, yet unionized workers decreased. The second task is to prepare for the Chapter 14 Quiz coming up on Thursday. Group Video Project, Continued (Days 166-167)

This marks my 100th post on my new blog. So I'm adding the label "milestone" to this post -- and I think I'll count it as "A Day in the Life" as well. With the cancellation of the minimum days, there's no natural choice regarding which day I should count as my monthly post, so I'll just choose today. (And besides, today's the 18th -- recall that on the old blog in 2016-17, the 18th was my original monthly posting day.) 8:00  -- My Advisory class arrives. I admit that of all my classes, Advisory is the one I write about the least on the blog. After all, I'm a math teacher, so of course I think the most about what's going on with my math students. But this is a great opportunity to blog about my morning senior Advisory class as well. First of all, I've been trying to have two graded assignments in this class per week. Sara(h) Week Activities (Day 2)

I welcome you to my new blog. Today is my first day as a math teacher at an LA County magnet high school, where I will be teaching mostly Statistics. I'll begin with a description of today, in "A Day in the Life" format. This is for the special day "my first day of school," even though it's really Day 2 -- I was hired a day late. 8:00  -- First period arrives. This is the first of two general Stats classes. This is a very small magnet school. In fact, the school hasn't admitted any new students since the start of the pandemic, and so all of the students are juniors and seniors. And the classes are even smaller -- in fact, there is only one  student listed on my roster for first period! One guy, a senior, does show up to class today -- but he's not the girl listed on the roster. He tells me that many students are getting their schedules adjusted this week, and so changes are coming. I hope for his sake that some more kids will transfer into his class,
